Our client, a leader in food processing, is looking for a Plant Manager with:
P.Eng designation
BSc – Food Science or Chemical Engineering
HACCP Certification +
Food Industry Experience

The Plant Manager provides leadership and direction to the plant in all areas of responsibility including administration, production, processing, packaging, quality, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, purchasing, safety, and environmental.

Directs the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet the customers’ requirements while maintaining corporate established quality standards.

Analyzes plant operations to ensure that the facility maintains a leadership position in the industry and that it takes advantage of new processes and technologies that become available.

Is responsible for expense control, including shrink, labor and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques.

Develops annual manufacturing expense budget in accordance with forecasted sales volumes and planned inventory levels.

Develops and manages implementation of plant capital budget.

Provides reliable and accurate information to finance to ensure that end of month closing schedules are met.

Ensures that appropriate standard operating procedures (SOP’s) are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business.

Implements plant safety programs and ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP’s).

Is responsible for the Food Security Policy/Program to assess potential food security risks and to ensure food security preventive measures are being implemented and routinely audited regarding the manufacturing, handling and storage of all food ingredients as well as finished goods.

Is liason between management, engineers and departments within local and branch facilities

Is responsible for environmental compliance.

Collaborates with other plant managers within the company to share best practices

Is responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, employee performance evaluations, discipline, and employee commendation.

Is responsible for the overall succession planning and development of plant management staff.

For those facilities with a collective bargaining agreement, additional responsibilities will include assisting in contract negotiations, grievances and arbitrations and all aspects of contract management.

Ensures compliance with all Company Corporate policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controlling.

Has supervisory responsibility involving staffing, conducting performance appraisals, training and developing subordinates, promotions, salary increases, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc.

Job Requirements
PEng Designation
Bachelor’s degree (BSc).
Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on experience in food processing plant operations or food industry
Must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of regulatory laws and responsibilities as relative to processing and filling and general facility standards.
Demonstrates basic understanding of budgeting, cost control and federal milk marketing reporting.
Demonstrates a passion for learning and a willingness to build new skills.
Must be able to define, diagnose, and resolve problems.
Ability to have an organization-wide perspective and understand how the business operates.
Ability to understand the vision of the organization and translate it into specific plans and actions that achieve desired results.
Must be a strong executor who has the ability to assist with strategy development at all levels of the organization to drive business performance.
Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must a safety conscious individual who is a  Millwright or Dual Ticketed  with experience in the manufacturing sector.

You will have experience in the operation of precision metal cutting, such as lathes, milling machines, drills and grinders. You will have excellent documentation, communication and intermediate computer skills.

The ability to work shift -work, overtime and the ability to respond to Emergency Call-Ins as required

Responsibilities:

A senior leadership position is available as Profit Center Managing Leader (PCML) for the Transportation team in Kitchener, Ontario. This company’s Transportation group provides comprehensive planning, engineering, and infrastructure management services for the bridge, rail, roadway, transit and aviation sectors.

The PCML is the recognized operational leader of a Profit Center (PC), accountable for the attainment of the PC’s management, financial, and performance objectives. The PCML is expected to consult and/or participate in significant proposals and projects undertaken within a PC.

With strong operational skills, and working with the Profit Center Practice Leader, the PCML is responsible for the attainment of financial operating results and objectives of the PC, the development of annual operating budgets and the preparation and implementation of the PC business plans and practice area goals, with a primary focus on growth, technical excellence and financial objectives.

Reporting to the Ontario Southwest Regional Leader, the specific roles and responsibilities as Managing Leader are:

Qualifications

With a minimum of 10 years experience in the implementation of transportation engineering projects, the candidate will have knowledge in both the design, project management and contract administration of successful projects.

Strong leadership, financial management, communication and team building skills are essential for the candidate to meet the expectations of this challenging position. Prior consulting experience, within the Transportation sector, and established client and agency contacts are desirable. 

A successful PCML will possess strong communication and business development skills and be a results-oriented individual who excels in a multi-disciplinary environment.
